To provide new and expectant mums in dire financial need with essential items (such as cots, buggies, clothes, nappies and other toiletries) to ensure they and their children have what they need;
To thereby reduce stress, anxiety and depression, which will in turn help their children;
To facilitate the recycling of baby- and child-related items that the original owners no longer use.
Service and support offered by BBB:
The provision of newborn packs (including clothes, nappies and toiletries) to expectant mums, so they have everything they need to get them through the first couple of weeks;
The donation of secondhand items such as cots, prams, highchairs, Moses baskets, toys, clothes, books and so on to parents of young children who are struggling financially.
Our successes and achievements so far:
We have helped around 200 families in the London Borough of Bromley so far, plus we have provided toys and household items for the general use of women and children living in, or moving on from, refuge;
We have built a network of contacts with professionals including health visitors, midwives, refuge officers, Social Workers and parenting practitioners;
We have established a team of volunteers; we have set up this website, a Facebook group and a Twitter account, and produced and distributed leaflets to promote our work;
We held a very successful launch party to officially get BBB off the ground, to thank all the people who helped to get it started, to celebrate our successes to date, and to build on the relationships we have already established;
Our Chair, Emma Martin, was awarded a national NCT award, Parents’ Champion of the Year, in October 2013, for her work in setting up Bromley Brighter Beginnings.
